What is a abn verification?
ABN verification is the process of confirming that a business is the registered legal entity it claims to be, by checking its Australian Business Number against the Australian Business Register. The register is public and returns the entity's legal name, any registered business names, its entity type, its ABN status and the date from which that status applied, its GST registration status, and the state and postcode of its main business location. Verification matters in business-to-business trade because an ABN links a trading name to an identifiable legal person that can be invoiced, held to a contract and pursued if something goes wrong. A current ABN is a meaningful baseline check and a cancelled one is a clear warning, but an ABN is a registration rather than an endorsement: it confirms who the counterparty is, not whether they are solvent, competent, or able to supply what they have offered.
How Surply uses it
Membership requires a checked ABN and a real production address, and the entity check is the first of the verification steps before an account can trade. Company authority on Surply comes from accepted membership plus an explicit role, never from an email domain.
